In early June, 2015, City of Boston Archaeologist Joe Bagley will be leading an archaeological excavation or "dig" in the Courtyard of Old City Hall. Archaeologist Bagley will be looking for foundations of the first public school in North America; the predecessor to today's Boston Latin School, which is currently located at Avenue Louis Pasteur in Fenway. The majority of the excavations will be shallow, narrow well protected trenches. Information about what is discovered and about what the discoveries mean in the context of Boston's history will be available on the Archaeologist's web site and social media outlets. We will also be covering some of the excitement going on in our courtyard and we hope you share our excitement in uncovering some of Boston's deep history!
